June 11-12, 2005—The opening weekend of ArtShow Street Galleries in Pittsfield, the hub of the cultural Berkshires, was hot in more ways than one! While the temperature and humidity levels were high that weekend, so was the turnout and sales. An article in the Berkshire Eagle headlined "Cool Art Heats Up Downtown" lauded the open air street gallery and the quality of work shown.
The Berkshires in Western Massachusetts attracts over a million high-end culturally savvy visitors in the summer months, and we'll be seeing a lot of them at upcoming Pittsfield ArtShows. Pittsfield, with over 50 downtown artist studios, is becoming known as a center for contemporary artists, and a Downtown Arts District and artist sales tax-free zone is in the works for the city.
Everyone had their favorite artists at the show, ranging from Alexa de los Reyes' underwater paintings and the intensely colored work by Jenna Gonzalez-Dooley to the edgy pieces by New York collective, the Next Movement... and the playful landscape and figures of Russ Potak. A variety of original paintings, prints, mixed-media pieces and photographs were sold over the weekend as attendees young and old enjoy the day.
Join us at the next ArtShow Street Galleries in downtown Pittsfield on June 25-26, July 9-10, July 30-31, August 13-14 and August 27-28! Alexa de los Reyes' Underwater series. | |
